I am writing to inform you and your students of internship opportunities at the district office of Congresswoman Jackie Speier. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience the inter-workings of a congressional office. During their internship, students will get an opportunity to write their own bill or event proposal and present it to Congresswoman Speier. Students can apply by emailing the attached PDF application, along with a resume, and writing sample tospeier.internships@mail.house.gov or Raghda.karajah@mail.house.govHiring will continue on a rolling basis until all positions are filled. Please feel free to share my contact information with your students and let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

What does an Congressional intern do?
Congresswoman Speier's first experience in public service was as an intern and she heartily recommends it for anyone with an interest in government or politics. There are opportunities for college students and recent graduates in the district office, located in San Mateo. Duties include:
  • Researching legislation and district issues
  • Writing letters
  • Interacting with constituents
  • Helping plan and staff events
  • Answering phones/opening and sorting mail
  • Assisting staff with administrative tasks
  • Entering data into community tracking documents (district office)
  • Writing and presenting a bill to the Congresswoman
You are an excellent candidate for an internship if you possess these qualities:
  • Professional phone manner
  • Interest in national and/or local issues
  • Able to work well with others
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Understanding of basic computer programs
  • Strong writing skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to complete tasks under tight deadlines
